What is the best trophy walleye destination?
Hecla, Manitoba, about a two-hour drive north of Winnipeg on paved roads. You fish the channel off Lake Winnipeg in the fall, just five minutes from the launch. I always stay at Gull Harbour Marina, right at the access.
Where can I catch trophy lake trout?
Kamuchawie Lake, the fly-in outpost run by Bakers Narrows Lodge, sits on the Manitoba–Saskatchewan border about 125 miles north of Flin Flon. We caught 11 Master Angler-size lakers in two days. It was the best trophy lake trout fishing I've ever had. Read the full trip.
Is Lake of the Woods good for ice fishing?
It's some of the best multi-species ice fishing in the Midwest. It produces some of the biggest walleye in Minnesota, and even on slow days you're catching sauger, burbot and plenty of slot fish.
When should I book a Rainy River spring walleye trip?
Book early. Lodging fills up fast during the spring walleye run. The US side is open until mid-April. I like the first weekend of April, because an early ice-out can muddy the river by the last week of the season.
